HI All,
I am sure u have heard/read/listened/seen news relating to the attacks on religious institutions in Orissa and Karnataka...No doubt the incident appalled me but it made me sit up and ask myself something...should we just view these incidents as religious intolerance alone or should we tag something more sinister to it..
i was watching a show on one of the domestic news channels the other day and a speaker pointed out that if the Delhi blasts were acts of terrorism then so are the church attacks..this immediately struck a chord with me..
no body has a set definition for terrorism. but we commonly accept that killing of innocent civilians by anyone by any method as terrorism..having said this somehow strangely we tend to associate terrorism with a certain religion and restrict ourselves to bomb blasts and the likes as incidents of terror...
now there is an obvious contradiction to how we define terrorism and how we actually perceive it....why is this the case..isint killing people just because they are subscribers of different ideologies equal to the mindless acts of terror that we have been witnessing in our cities recently...our politicians while prescribing tough laws for "terrorism" somehow (may be conveniently) dont have an solution for putting a full stop to attacks on religious institutions...why dont they club these incidents with the conventional "terrorism" and propose draconian laws for all of these dastardly acts..
we know all too well that the roots causes of terrorism are hatred and deprivation..these attacks are sowing the seeds of terrorism and if this continues in any form or format then our future generations would be fighting extremism all over india..and we wouldnt have anybody else but ourselves to blame for our predicament then...

hmm.. true. they definitely call for more attention than being discarded as religious clashes. Well said :)
exactly me feelings regarding this matter. This high handedness of these home grown terrorists has now reached its highest point ever. They should be treated in the same way as we treat the terrorists. As a devout Hindu, am ashamed to see that organisations like Bhajrang dal and shiv sena are representing my religion...they should be banned in the same way as we banned SIMI
nice blog man..am blogrolling u
And we call ourselves the most intelligent beings, etc.
ya.. i feel tht any organization with hard core religious bck ground shld b under constant chk.. coz we can t ban them frm formin the organization.. bt the prob is- say in maharashtra, many of the ppl who r supposed to b checkin these type of org themselves support the shiv sena, etc.! mera bharat mahan!
@preeti..ya certainly there needs to be more media coverage on these incidents..
@praveen...these outfits are no diff from SIMI and yes they do bring ill name Hindiusim
@Kartz..we are still intelligent beings no matter what happens..
@matangi...keeping tabs on them wont be sufficient ..i would prefer the more extreme of banning..and the yes there is always the angle of state sponsoring these miscreants..as it was witnessed in Gujarat and currently in Orissa..
Dear Mr Palaniappan,
I am not supporting any kind of terrorism whether it is religious, political, social or any other kind. Why we talk so much and do just nothing to weed out this monster? We are not having the guts to face the reality(?). Our politicians should be banned first from giving such slandering and outrageous comments and those political parties should be banned for life (Shiv Sena or Muslim league or RJD, Samajwadi who so ever it may be) if they come out in support of the militants or terrorists based on their religion or caste. Both in Karnataka and Orissa Christian Missionaries were found to be distributing slanderous material against Hindu gods. Why no body condemned them or arrested them for such malicious act? We should find out the real culprits behind all this and punish them irrespective of his or her position in the society. As a Citizen of this noble country we should respect the freedom of others and not abuse then only we can weed out terrorism
@ Mr Hari,
Thanks for dropping by. I totally agree with u that we should prosecute anyone trying to disturb the communal harmony in this country, regardless of their religious beliefs.
At the same time, citizens don't have the right to take the law in their own hands and play vigilante when they find some outfits which are trying to flame up communal passions. The right thing to do would be to report instantly to the concerned authorities and pressurize them to take action according to the law of the land.
What happened in Karnataka and Orissa shows gross neglect and in some cases official machinery playing accomplice to the gruesome incidents against innocent people, mostly belonging to the minority community.
